A Petition To J-Street: Endorse Jonathan Tasini
We, the undersigned, consider ourselves progressive Jews who are in agreement with the goals and mission of J-Street. We are, therefore, writing to strongly urge J-Street PAC to endorse Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the US Senate Democratic nomination for the State of New York in 2010.
At a time when peace in the Mideast is as important as ever before, it is crucial that the voices of progressive Jews be heard in the debate. Jonathan, who has lived in Israel and has deep roots in the country going back to before the establishment of Israel, is widely known for his staunch, unwavering support of the very position that J Street advocates: a negotiated end to the Arab-Israeli conflict and a two-state solution that ensures the safety and security of both the Palestine State and Israel. By contrast, his opponent’s official campaign website does not even mention the Middle East in her list of “issues.”
Electing Jonathan will ensure that the voice of progressive Jews will be heard even louder in the U.S. Senate--not just when it is convenient but when the tough votes and important debates require a champion who has the spine, principals and ethical compass to speak up. Obviously, having that progressive voice represent New York would carry tremendous weight.
We know Jonathan Tasini is that person. He is our candidate. He deserves our active support. We urge J-Street to put its full weight behind his campaign.
