Charles Rangel, Anti-Democratic And Running Scared
07/19/10FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District, released the following statement on his opponent's attempt to use backroom, dirty politics to block debate in this election.
Last Thursday night, minutes before the deadline, Charles Rangel's operatives took steps to kill democracy. His operatives have moved to remove my name from the ballot. By doing so, Charles Rangel showed that he is running scared, that he has no respect for democracy and is perfectly content to feed the dysfunction and frustration people feel about politics, rather than have an open and honest debate about the issues facing the people of the 15th Congressional District.
Ending the Afghanistan War - And The Failure of Leadership of Charles Rangel
07/07/10FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District, released the following statement regarding the incumbent's failure of leadership in Congress on ending the Afghanistan War:I have pledged, from the outset of the campaign, not to vote for a single dime for the Afghanistan War, other than for an immediate, rapid, safe withdrawal from Afghanistan. I will be a consistent opponent of immoral wars and the continued militarization of our economy, at the expense of spending money for human needs.
By contrast, the incumbent, when he actually has had the chance to end the war, has failed to exhibit any leadership. In fact, he now is trying to mislead the voters of the 15th Congressional District with an appallingly misleading video pronouncing his new-found promise to oppose war-funding.
Columbia U Decision, Rangel In The Tank For Real Estate
06/24/10FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jonathan Tasini, Democratic candidate for the 15th Congressional District in NY, issued this release responding to the state appellate court decision on eminent domain and Columbia University.
The people of Central Harlem have been abandoned by the courts and most of the elected politicians who would rather pocket campaign contributions than stand up for the people. This ruling will now allow Columbia University--one of the biggest real estate powers in the city--to destroy the lives of residents and small businesses.
Failure: The War, The Democratic Party and Charles Rangel
06/23/10FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The uproar about General McChrystal’s remarks is a distraction, obscuring a much deeper failure: of the failed war policy, the Democratic Party and the failed leadership of Charles Rangel.
The country has been led down the path of an entirely failed policy. Our country must, once and for all, learn that we cannot bend the will of a country through force—especially when the country is led by an illegitimate government not recognized by the majority of the population. It is blind foolishness to believe that a country that could not be conquered by armies over the past centuries will, all of a sudden, succumb to the United States.
Tasini Wins Key Endorsement From DFNYC, Snagging 67 Percent Of Vote
06/09/10Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District in New York, commented on his endorsement by Democracy For New York City.
I have always been a movement person. I see this race as an opportunity to build a movement that will defend the rights of all the people of the 15th Congressional District--the people who have been abandoned by a dysfunctional political system that appears to care more about catering to real estate and Wall Street interests than looking out for the people.

On Tuesday night, I defeated a 40-year incumbent in a vote at the Barack Obama Democratic Club, a key political club in the 15th Congressional District. The Barack Obama Democratic Club is the newest, most vibrant club in Upper Manhattan (Washington Heights and Inwood)--a diverse club formed in the wake of the historic presidential election.
Tasini's Statement on His Arrest Yesterday
06/02/10Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District in New York, issued the following statement on his arrest yesterday during a demonstration against the Arizona immigration law (video here).
Yesterday, I chose to be arrested, along with about 50 other people, during a demonstration in Manhattan against the racist, unconscionable Arizona immigration law. As the son of two immigrants, I will do everything I can to make sure that that law is opposed and overturned and that we rollback any future attempts to target undocumented immigrants.
Tasini Calls on U.S. To Condemn Israeli Attack on Gaza Peace Activists
05/31/10FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District, released the following statement reacting to Israel's attack on the Gaza peace flotilla.
Beyond the obvious condemnation of the Israeli attack in international waters on the flotilla of boats carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, I want us to focus very clearly on this fact: our country bears a heavy responsibility for the deaths of at least 10 people, people whose one goal was to deliver basic supplies to a population that has endured a crushing blockade.
